Where is the Diag and where should I park?
The Diag (map)
is located in the center of the U-M Ann Arbor central campus just north of South
University Street, just east of State Street, and just south of North
University. It is surrounded by buildings such as Natural Science (Kraus
Building), Angell Hall (front of Angell Hall faces State Street, the Diag is
"behind" Angell Hall), The Hatcher Graduate Library, the Shapiro Undergraduate
Library, West Hall, Natural Resources, and the Chemistry Building. The Diag is
about 200 yards south of the Burton Memorial Tower, a.k.a. the Bell Tower.
Parking and Getting to the DIAG
If driving into town, we
suggest that you park in one of the following structures:
Parking Structure at Glen Street and Catherine Street
This structure is free after 6pm each day as well as on weekends. (Otherwise,
you need a permit.)
If coming in via M-14/Main Street, head south on Main for about a mile to
Huron Street (one block south of Ann Street). If coming in via I-94/State
Street, head north 2-3 miles on State Street to Huron Street (one block north of
Washington). Follow Huron Street east to Glen Street (the Power Center will be
on your right at Huron & Fletcher, but you'll want to turn left onto Glen).
Turn left and head north on Glen for 2 blocks. The parking structure is on
northwest corner of Glen St. & Catherine St.
If coming in via US-23/Washtenaw, follow Washtenaw west and then follow the
Stadium/Washtenaw "split" north until it curves west. Just as the street begins
to head west, get in the right lane and make an immediate right turn onto Glen
Street. Head north on Glen for 2 blocks. Structure is on northwest corner of
Glen St. & Catherine St.
To get to the Diag from the structure at Glen & Catherine:
Head south on Glen for 2 blocks. Cross Huron at the Power Center (performing
arts center) and then continue south on Fletcher Street for 2 more blocks. When
you reach North University, the Chemistry building will be in front of you. The
Diag is on the other side of the Chemistry Building.
Parking Structure at Hill Street and East University
This structure is free after 6pm and all day on Sundays. You need a permit at
all other times. Thus, we recommend this structure only for Tuesday evenings. We
don't recommend this structure for Saturday juggling.
If coming in via M-14/Main Street, head south for about 2 miles to Hill
Street. If coming in via I-94/State Street, head north for about 2 miles to Hill
Street. Proceed east on Hill Street. The structure is on the left (north) side
of the street about 1/3 mile east of State Street.
If coming in via US-23/Washtenaw, follow Washtenaw west and then follow the
Stadium/Washtenaw "split" north. After about 1/2 mile you will see Hill Street.
When you get to Hill Street, turn left and proceed west for a few blocks. The
structure will be on the right (north) side of the street just west of East
University.
To get to Diag from the structure at Hill & East University, head north
on East University until you get to South University. On the northwest corner
there is an "Arch" in the West Hall building. Proceed through the Arch - you
will be on the Diag.
